Monterey, CA, April 7, 2008 - Web-Feet Research, Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of the Solid State Drives (SSD) Markets and Applications Quarterly Series for 1Q 2008. This is the inaugural edition of the quarterly update series for this annual report. Due to the changing nature of the Solid State Storage market, and in keeping with Web-Feet Research’ mission to keep our clients informed with forward looking industry specific information, we are excited to provide this valuable quarterly series.
The Quarterly Series provides an in-depth analysis of the market and applications for Solid State Storage, including competing and complementing technologies.
With the expanded use of SSDs in newer applications and platforms, this report provides the definition of an SSD encompassing this extended scenario to better represent and forecast this market segment.
Overall SSD revenue growth is expected to reach $11.7 billion in 2012. SSD unit and revenue growth will be driven heavily by low cost PCs from OLPC, Asus’s Eee PC, Intel’s Classmate and others along with the rapid adoption of SSDs in notebook PCs. MLC technology for SSDs will eventually be adopted as the standard design-in for these platforms due to MLC technologies’ better value proposition.
Enterprise unit and revenue growth will continue to be healthy as SSD unit prices continue to decline over the forecast period. SSD revenue growth is expected to be 34.4% year over year. Although SSD adoption and growth is healthy in enterprise applications, its total contribution compared to the overall HDD enterprise storage continues to be a fraction of the total storage market for the forecast period.
Details of these findings can be found in the full report, MS300SSD1-28. The full report is divided into two parts; the first emphasizes the history, development, and future applications of Solid State Storage. The latter sections focusing on the Quarterly updates and time-sensitive market evaluations and forecasts for Solid State Storage, alternative storage technologies, and economic, political, and market indices which are affecting these applications today.
We also encourage you to attend our upcoming 2008 NVM Conference in San Jose “If They Build It, Will They Buy?” on July 21st at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Santa Clara; preceding by one day Denali’s Memcon show also held at the same location. The lineup of speakers and topics will be quite in-depth and the one-day format includes a panel discussion on ‘SSD usage models’. Registration is now open and forms are available on the portal or by email.
